Ok, I might be a little biased, but this session with my trainer, Kacey Strouse and her barrel horses Platinum and Birdie are probably one of my favorites from November. Ok, maybe it was the last Heart Horse session of the season and the only shoot in November, but I’m a little obsessed with these portraits of her and her herd. Like I said, Kacey is my riding instructor and Platinum (the white pinto) is my lesson horse and I can’t say enough about how much I love working with her and that white pony.
Coming to Kacey’s riding program I was nervous and fearful to ride after a (non riding) back injury and a bad experience with a western disciplined horse at another barn. Our first contact was from my previous riding instructor (the one who helped me eliminate my fear of horses after said event at the previous barn), Julia Evans of King Equestrian, who referred me to Kacey prior to Julia leaving her old lesson barn.
I reached out to Kacey through Facebook. Feeling anxious I pushed through the fear anyway, because I need to work through this mental junk around riding. She instantly asked if we could chat over the phone and we chatted that evening. Filling her in on the details of the past 2 years of riding and horse experience she made me feel seen and heard. She put me at ease and it made me eager to meet her and her herd. So, I made the 30 minute drive outside of the city to where her barn is located.
I’ve been riding with her and Platinum for almost a year (In July) and I’ve grown so much as a rider and horsewoman with Kacey and Platinum’s help.
