Fearless is a boudoir portrait series that features 40 women over the age of 30, where they share their tales of courage. The women who participate in the series share their struggles that they have overcome and now they’re celebrating, sharing, and inspiring their stories for those who are currently going through a struggle of their own to show that there is light on the other side. Here’s a participant who shares her story in her own words.Â
I personally believe that fear is an acceptable emotion. Being Fearless however, is a subcategory of determination. I'm afraid of many things but I am fearless in my desire to rise above my weaknesses and persevere at any cost.
I am recently out of a 12 year relationship where I had already struggled with some form of an identity crisis in my early 20's but for the first time in my life, I am unapologetically my authentic self and I am very proud of her.
There is no choice. You push through because you have to. You either come out of the ashes better than who you were before or you fall to the wayside and get chewed up by life. The answer 100% of the time is that you forget losing is even an option.
I lost my father to a murder/suicide when I was 26 years old. In a 12 hour period, life as I had known it was turned inside out. I went from speaking to him on a Friday morning making plans together for the weekend to being on the phone with the coroner's office in a house full of people staring at me. I paid for a cremation, planned a funeral, cleaned out his house, re-homed his pets, settled his affairs and returned to work in a 7 day period. I was so lost without his guidance that I thought I'd never move past my steadily self-destructive behavior that was guiding me down a very dark path.
I speak about him and his story openly and part of my grieving process and journey is awareness and honesty about living through such a sad and scary moment. I am definitely not "better" as a result but I am most certainly tougher and maybe only a little jaded. I am definitely smarter and more resilient.
